THE ROLE AND SIGNIFICANCE OF MANAGEMENT IN EDUCATION

Abstract

Globally, the world is changing, and education is a key factor of those
changes. New findings reveal new horizons and demand new engagements in the
implementation of the said changes. Changes require broader activities in the area
of education and in all aspects of life that can enhance efficiency and effectiveness of
education. The education in Serbia needs to go through changes that have already
occurred in higher developed countries, because we live in the society and economy of
knowledge. Strengthening of management in education is of great importance, especially for societies and economies in transition like Serbia. Education represents the
“central nerve system” of every society – the educational and cultural network that
constantly vibrates. Besides teachers, professors, and educators, skilled and educated
managers are also very important. It is well-known that managers have to be innovative and to possess skills related to planning, organization, coordination and monitoring the implementation of activities in education institutions.
